I believe many of you already know how wonderful cave story is. I am ashamed to say that i just found this game a couple days ago and fell in love with it, instantly.

For those who didn't know, cave story is a freeware game created by studio pixel. It's shooting/adventure/rpg game. The protagonist will spent his entire adventure in a cave looking environtment(hence the name cave story).

The game starts when the protagonist found himself in a strange cave, don't remember why or how he got into this cave in the first place. He made his way through the cave, avoiding many enemies and harmful environtment, and somehow he found himself in a village, inhabited by rabbit-looking villagers, the Mimigas.

The actual story officially starts from there. The protagonist slowly learn about what really happened, what his purpose, and what he is as he proceed further into the cave. He meet many friends and enemies along the way, and finally reached the truth at the end.

What i like about this game is, althought it is a freeware game, it has a lot of secrets, multiple endings, even a whole new secret level that can be unlocked if we do certain sidequest in the game. I haven't unlocked all the secrets yet, but it's just a matter of time now^^

The soundtrack is good. It fit perfectly with the environtment. I personaly loved the bgm of Mimiga Village. It portrayed how peaceful the village was, before the incident happened.

The gameplay is fun too. You shoot enemies, collecting the experience points to level up your weapons, collecting many hidden health upgrade(Remind me of the old Megaman X), jumping and dodging harmful environtments, and fun boss battles, just like your old 2d side scrolling platforming game. I found this game very nostalgic, honest.

And here is my most favorite part, the storyline. You started as someone who have no idea what happened, exploring the cave while helping people along the way, and you found out how dire the condition really is. Suddenly, You become the last hope, not because of secret power or something only you have, but because you are the only one left who can fight. The rest are either dead or couldn't fight anymore. Did i mentioned that The odds are greatly againts you?. To make it even more depressing, you have the option to run away, under the reason that there is no way to defeat the entire enemy by yourself.

...And guess how sweet the feeling is when you topped the obstacles one by one, then winning the final decisive battle on top of the island.
